Assistant Controller

Position Summary

Warner Robins, GA

Supervises all aspects of accounting for the plant location, reporting to the Sr Operations Controller. Responsibilities include managing the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes and overseeing key areas of the company’s financial statements. This position interacts with most departments and business units across the organization, including plant accounting, operations, information technology, purchasing, freight/logistics, and sales.

Responsibilities & Roles

  • Ownership of the general accounting function, including, but not limited to, fixed asset accounting and capital expenditure reporting; freight accounting; customer rebate accounting; prepaid assets; sales/use tax filings; and general accruals.
  • Manages accounting for fixed assets, including capital expenditure reporting, fixed asset roll forward, disposals, depreciation, and tax ledgers.
  • Manages the accounting and reconciliation of freight payments and payables, working closely with the freight/logistics department.
  • Performs technical accounting research and assists with accounting policy documentation.
  • Coordinates the aggregation of Annual Operating Plan (budget) information across all business units for entry into reporting systems.
  • Prepares and/or reviews monthly account reconciliations.
  • Ensures that company financial records and reports are prepared and maintained in compliance with US GAAP and company policies and internal controls.
  • Manages the charts of account for the JD Edwards general ledger system and the Hyperion Essbase reporting system.
  • Coordinates deliverables to external auditors to ensure timely completion of annual audits and reviews.
  • Manage and develop corporate accounting staff.
  • Other projects and process improvement initiatives, as required.

Employee Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required with at least 7 years of experience; CPA preferred
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Understanding of databases and complex ERP systems; JD Edwards experience preferred
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent verbal and written skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deliverables in a fast-paced environment Project management skills
