Packaging Manager

Position Summary

Lawrenceburg, IN

Manages the activities of Carton and Palletizer personnel engaged in all facets of the manufacturing function. Maintain plant standards and meet plant goals. Oversees manufacturing process that includes packaging, carton assembly, storage and product quality.

Responsibilities & Roles

  • Supervise, direct and coordinate Carton Shop/Dock and Palletizing Area within the Selecting department in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provide necessary training and development for all personnel to improve and upgrade technical skills.
  • Maintain good manufacturing practices to include but not limited to 5s, food safety, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Ensure that the quality of packaging materials meets or exceeds customer requirements.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the equipment and work closely with plant maintenance on line flow and equipment issues.
  • Coordinate ware handling, procedures, and job changes with the forming, quality and maintenance departments.
  • Administer overall standard operating policies and procedures for finished product operation.
  • Provide leadership in the areas of customer satisfaction, continuous improvement and communication.
  • Coordinate and manage automation engineering activities in support of production machinery including machine controls, interfaces, programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), software, and data tracking
  • Evaluate control systems, products, components, and applications.
  • Confirm control system functionality, including appropriate safety compliance, by designing and/or executing test procedures.
  • Keep equipment operating and improve equipment uptime by performing periodic audits; troubleshooting breakdowns; requesting supplies; defining and reviewing preventive maintenance plans; calling for repairs; and implementing process improvements.
  • Maintain PLC documentation upon receipt from equipment suppliers and an archive of PLC programs and machine controls drawings in electronic format.
  • Commission and fine tune control systems, working individually or as a member of a team of other engineers, technicians, and contractors.
  • Examine needs on new equipment, calculate costs and help prepare budgets.

Employee Qualifications

  • 2-year degree in engineering or equivalent years of experience in an engineering field or in a related area
  • 2-5 years’ experience with industrial production and supervisory skills
  • Detail orientated
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and instruction manuals
  • Demonstrated project management and troubleshooting ability
  • PC skills including AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Word and Microsoft Project
  • Experience with electrical/mechanical CAD, Allen Bradley PLCs, Studio 5000, various HMI interfaces (Proface, FTView ME/SE), VFDs including but not limited to PowerFlex 525, Yaskawa V1000, LeroySomer DigiDrive, and experience with various networking equipment
  • Ability to perform Root Cause Analysis and develop plans from resulting findings
  • Installation, programming, troubleshooting automation axis controls
